We at the AGGV recognize that reconciliation requires more than words—it demands that we confront systemic racism, dismantle institutional barriers, and continuously reshape our practices to realize true accountability. We are grateful for the ongoing relationships built alongside Indigenous communities and organizations, and we also recognize that as a cultural institution, we must actively engage in the learning required to address the colonial structures embedded within the arts sector and our own operations.
In honour of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we offer free admission to the Gallery and the exhibition As waters merge – swaying waves beckoning us closer .
We invite visitors and community members to take time on this day for personal reflection, education, and meaningful engagement with the history and unresolved intergenerational legacy of the residential school system.
We also encourage you to support and participate in local, Indigenous-led, commemorative events. Recommended events and educational opportunities in our region include:
Songhees Nation South Island Powwow
First Nations Education Steering Committee (FNESC / FNSA) Resources
